Make a tower of erupting foam
Add hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and warm water to the flask. Then add the yeast.
First, guess: what will the yeast do? Predict first: what happens when the yeast (a catalyst) meets the peroxide?

Yeast goes in last. Choose how much below, then press react.
Why it foams: the yeast wakes up the peroxide and turns it into lots of oxygen bubbles. The dish soap traps those bubbles into foam, and the reaction makes heat, so the foam feels warm. yeast is a catalyst that breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas. Dish soap traps the oxygen as a foam of tiny bubbles, and the reaction is exothermic (it releases heat), so the foam is warm.
Whoa, a foam tower! The yeast woke up the bubbles. It made lots of oxygen, the soap trapped it into foam, and it felt warm because the reaction makes heat.
The yeast is a catalyst: it broke the hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas fast. The dish soap trapped that oxygen into a foam of tiny bubbles, and the reaction released heat (it is exothermic), so the foam is warm.
It fizzed but did not tower. Without soap, the gas escaped into the air. Add dish soap next time to trap it into foam!
Gas formed, but with no soap there was nothing to trap the oxygen, so it escaped as fizz. Soap is what turns the gas into a foam.
Nothing happened yet. The yeast is what starts it. Add hydrogen peroxide, then choose some yeast, and react!
No reaction. Peroxide is the fuel and yeast is the catalyst that starts it. Without both, nothing breaks down.
This is a real project in the box: Foaming Fountain. You build it with clear bottle, 3% hydrogen peroxide, measuring cup and spoon, craft stick, dish soap, yeast, blue dye, tray. Science topic: chemical reactions, NGSS aligned.

Each project arrives with its own pre-portioned supplies, so one box gives a child three full experiments to work through across the month, and a 12-month plan delivers 36 projects in total.
Yes. Each box ships with all the supplies a child needs for all three projects, down to the batteries. There is no prep work, no printing, and no trip to the store before you start. Open the box, read the first card, and begin the experiment straight away.
The kits are designed for kids ages 5 to 12+ and older. Projects are matched to an age tier, so younger children and older kids each receive experiments suited to their level. Every box builds the same underlying science skills, just pitched at the right difficulty for the child.
Three months is $109, six months $209, nine months $289, and twelve months $359 for 36 projects, which works out at about $30 a box. Shipping is free on every plan. Month to month is $37.95 with no commitment, and you can cancel at any time from your account.
Shipping is free on every box, with no minimum order and no surcharge on longer plans. Your first box is shipped within 1 to 3 business days of ordering. After that, boxes ship with the monthly batch between the 1st and the 5th of each month.
You can cancel at any time from your account, and month to month plans carry no commitment at all. Term plans run for the length you chose and then renew, unless you switch auto-renew off first. Contact us and we will process the cancellation for you.
Yes. STEM Discovery Boxes is fundable through major ESA and education-funding programs, including Step Up for Students (SUFS), ClassWallet, and Arizona ESA. Eligible families can pay through their program's marketplace, or be reimbursed with the itemized receipt we provide. Schools can purchase with a purchase order and a W-9.
Yes. Schools, camps and event organizers order by quote, not by subscription. Tell us the quantity and date and we send a written quote and an invoice, and we accept purchase orders. For gifts and family plans you can opt out of auto-renew at checkout, so the plan runs only for the term you paid for.
Yes. Every box is designed to align with NGSS, the Next Generation Science Standards, alongside Common Core, TEKS, SOL and other state frameworks. Each box includes 3 science lessons alongside the 3 projects, so a teacher or parent can connect the hands-on work to what a child is expected to learn.
